Using Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Linux, the drop-down menus at the top of the page are hidden by the flash. In short, the site is now extremely difficult to use. For example, there is no way to get directly to the "publications" page.

Yes, I know that I can click on one of the "read more" links, thus arriving on a page without flash, and can select the menu from there, but I don't consider that a feature.

I will work on a fix.

I have looked into the problem, and there doesn't appear to be a way of overlaying html/css over flash in firefox for linux without resorting to ugly hacks. So, I have implemented javascript browser detection and disabled the flash banner for linux boxes. You should only be able to see a static image in its place, but the dropdown menus should work again.
