I need some major help
i had created about 4 dummy objects so as that i could move different 'sets'
and was using these to get around in the ADD OBJECTS screen. i closed the program and saved it and then re opened it
now NONE of the are in the drop down box (but are in the list of objects)
if i tell the camera to 'get a good look at' then it gives me some weird angle that is not facing the way i set up the dummy object/camera

The "get a good look at" command makes the camera do an overhead view of the object which is why it is doing what it is. Try doing the "turn to face", "point at", or "orient to" commands to get a good view of the dummy.

For some additional suggestions, though they are mainly just variations on what John Clark suggests, search the forum for scenes, sets, etc. Several people have used various approaches.
Personally, I like to drop a dummy at both a fixed object and at the camera. If I get lost or accidentally move something, which often happens, I can always get back to a refernce configuration with a pair of "orient to" commands (which set both position and angle).

thanks this sort of works.
It helps when trying to view the movie but still doesnt explain why they disappeared from the drop down box in the add objects window, which was my main problem.

Don't know if this will help or not, but in my online tutorials, I explain a procedure for "setting the stage" that seems to work well for me.

Possibly answered by now, but sounds like you are trying to move the camera to the view from the dummy, like when you select the dummy from the "Move camera to dunny:" box to the right of the add objects window. If so, all you need to do is right click on the camera, select "set point of view to" in the mothods, and select the dummy.
