View Full Version : How do you change Alice rendering distances?

Hey all, I'm creating a flight simulation where you fly around in the South Pacific in a plane. Your goal is to "catch" certain objects in midair. Problem is, the plane goes so fast (60 meters per second) that objects will only appear within seconds of contact, making it nearly impossible to find the objects.

Question is, is there a way to increase Alice's rendering distances? My comp shouldn't have a problem running Alice with increased rendering distances (it is DX7 ). Any help would be appreciated ::)

Not really sure what you mean by "rendering distance." Alice does all it's rendering from the viewpoint of the single available camera - thus to make more of a scene "visable", you need to move the camera away from the objects in question. You can also change the camera's viewing angles either from the editing screen or the properties menu and can change the cutoff points from the properties menu as well.

I really have never found that this gave a problem with speed, even for a fairly slow machine. Usually those problems are due to trying to keep track of a large number of objects, independent of scale. Also, the various rendering options support different levels of such things as tranparency - software rendering probably supports the least of any of the options.
