I just watched an Alice demonstration video by David Michael Culyba, and saw a snippet of a Star Wars world. I'd *love* to see more of this! Does anyone know if this is available anywhere perhaps? It looked complex and lovely. :)

Cheers!

James

Sounds interesting. Where did you see the demo?

FYI, I found this page on the net: http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~dculyba/

It's called "Lightsaber". A video of it can be found here:

I also found an article on head mounted displays called,

"Using the HMD for the Lightsaber demo"
http://www.etc.cmu.edu/bvw/scripting/HMDSetup.html

which has a link for a demo, but the link is dead...

Here's a reference to a Building Virtual Worlds class assignment:

Here are a few other galleries I stumbled across:

I was over at the designated site looking at it, and I do believe that the world was created in the Panda3D system. So, unless someone knows a method for translating the python files that Panda uses to an *.a2w, I'm afraid all objects, textures and environments will have to be built from scratch.:(
However, I was impressed by the graphics capability of the Panda3D system. It looks like it has more power than Alice, but I assume it was created as a logical step up for the second year programming classes at Carnegie-Mellon?

The Building Virtual Worlds class, taught by the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at Carnegie Mellon, used to use the Alice environment. It has since transitioned over to the more powerful Panda3D platform while Alice's focus has changed to teaching introductory programming. A lot of cool BVW worlds have been made using Alice, pushing the software to do things quite impressive.

I have seen the Alice Demo from the Alice site, the second video at http://www.alice.org/index.php?page=what_is_alice/what_is_alice

I too would love to see this world and it has already aroused interest in potential students.

I have attached a screen grab of the intro but I cannot find any reference to it on the net. Maybe some at Alice knows?
