Hi, all!

A new course, EPSY 590 VE: Virtual Worlds for Education, will be offered at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during the Spring semester.

The course will examine several different virtual learning environments, including Scratch, Alice, Croquet, and Second Life.

This is an online graduate course designed for students in the U of I's Curriculum, Technology, and Education Reform Ed. M. program, most of whom are working K-12 teachers. However, we do have a limited number of seats available for students who aren't in the program.

You can learn more about the course on its wiki page (http://wik.ed.uiuc.edu/index.php/EPSY_590_VE). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks, and Happy New Year!

How much does it cost, and is it available for Auditing?

Thanks,

Hi, Cindy,

The tuition and fees come to $1,928.

While I think the course might available on a non-credit basis (I'll have to check with our program coordinator when he gets back on Jan. 5th), it's a hands-on project-based course. I don't think a student would get his or her money's worth without building the projects, and if you're going to build the projects, you might as well get the credit. :)
