Are you going to be releasing a final build of Alice 2.0, or is all your brain power focused on getting Alice 3.0 ready for release?

2.0 was the FINAL release. I believe that is published somewhere.

The next release will be 3.0 [Edit] and it will be coming from Electronic Arts.

I'm not sure I even understand your question but I hope I answered it.

Hmmm, EA is releasing Alice, eh? I guess that means we'll be paying for using it now? And, no you did not understand my question. What I meant was will there be any final BUILDS, you know to eliminate bugs...

I understood the question and it has been published that EA is working on 3.0 and 2.0 is the FINAL published version. Just as it has been published that it will continue to be FREE.

Let us know if you need any help with "work-arounds" for your coding projects. The Forum users have offered many. We can help you.

Good luck!

There seems to be some misunderstanding here.

Alice v2.0 (4/5/05) is the latest and final release of the 2.0 software. It is no longer being developed upon as we are focusing all of our efforts on 3.0. All bug reports and suggestions regarding 2.0 are very much being taken into account with the development of 3.0.

Speaking of which...

Alice v3.0 is not being release or developed by Electronic Arts. They generously donated the art assets from the Sims 2 in order to help make Alice 3.0 a better tool -- one which will attract more people into the computer science field as well as keep them there. The Alice research team at Carnegie Mellon University are the only people developing the software. As always, it will remain free and open source.

Does this mean the Alice 2.1 Dennis mentioned will only be internal to the development group and not "productized?"

Alice-2.1 is not intended to replace Alice-2.0 in any real sense. It is really just Alice-2.0 with a bonus menu item that exports some of your opening scene for the Alice2 mimicking Java API.

I do not expect it to be released any time soon since it is not yet finalized. When it is ready it will be available to all for free, of course. :)

First, thanks for the update, it was very interesting. Please continue them as you have time. Also see if you can get Electronics Arts to do some prettier characters. ;) At least in the original Sims, nearly all of the figures were nicely modeled but ugly (or at least unattractive - if I want to see that, I'll look in the mirror). Some of the "monsters" were better looking than the heroes.

Also, I'm glad to hear 2.1 will be released to everyone. The features should be useful to a subset of users and putting it as a menu option hopfully won't dilute the main thrust of 2.0 too much.
