Hi, I'm a new Alice user and I was trying to convert a model of Bomberman I got off sketchup into an .ase file. I managed to import it to alice, but the color turned out black and red instead of the colors from before. Was there something wrong during the conversion I made?

Probably not. There may be a texture that was applied to the model you saw that didn't import to Alice (textures rarely do).

Look through the folder where you exported the model as a .dae file for another folder called bomberman (or whatever the model was called), and look inside it for an image file, like a .jpeg or a .bmp. When you find it, import it to your world (not as a billboard, just as a texture), then have your model use it as it's texture.

There may be multiple images, in which case, you'll need to figure out which parts of bomberman go with each texture. You can do this by trial and error, or view the original .ase file for hints.

I can't seem to find any folder in my Desktop that's related to my model..(it's where I exported the model)...can I use the image file in Google 3Dwarehouse instead?

You can, but there's no guarantee that it will work. Can you tell me which model you mean and let me see for myself, please?

Hey, i finally managed to export a new model with the textures included...turns out I did not have the option of exporting the texture when I was working with sketchup pro...anyways, there's one more thing i'd like to ask...how do you know which parts the names inside the ase file are referring too? all i see are IDxx.xxx's so i can't figure out which body part it is.

Since the names are messed up, the only way you'd know is if you could calculate 3d points and faces like a computer could (which would be pretty cool), or if you opened up the model in some program that let you have some degree of editing freedom with the model, like Sketchup, Blender, or even possibly Alice, and matched the IDxxx names to the parts they represent.

You are able to name different the pieces in Sketchup, but I'm not sure if those names carry over into .ase form when converted.

It might of been just a different texture
