Question: Would it be or is it possible to Import 3D models from other sources into alice?, Would you have to convert them and/or set sub parts for the model? Example being: Taking a Charater model from a game, lets use my World of Warcraft character, and implementing it in Alice worlds. I'm not quite sure the copy right legal mumbo jumbo on World of Warcraft characters, but it's just an example. (There are other games where people make custom player models avaible to others for free.) Any way I just thought it would be really sweet to have a character from another source in an Alice world. Thanks.

In principle, if you could get the character into Milkshape (or any other 3D program), you should then be able to export it as a wire frame and texture for Alice. In practice, it's pretty hard for anything other than very simple objects because of scale factors, orientations of normals, object hierarchy in the model, etc. Also you will also lose any animation rigging you have done (bones, skin attachments, etc.) since, in Alice 2.0, that isn't supported (sounds like it will be in 3.0 but that's a ways off).

If you can get something into Milkshape that looks good, send me a copy and I'll see what I can do to get it to Alice (assuming I can figure out how to register my copy of Milkshake :) ).

Thanks. I've tried getting the model into Milkshape, but I've given up on that. I think alice 3.0 will be very intresting if what you say is what comes to be. being able to use previous projects such as models some one has made would be a major attraction to your alice program. As well as implementing favorite game aspects. *cough* master sword! *cough*!.. :D

Sorry Milkshape didn't work - it looked to me like the best bet, but then I haven't worked with objects from games.

It seems like I'm finding something new every day in terms of ways to convert models - and a very few even work :p -. If you'd like to post an example of the file you're starting with, I'll keep it in mind if I see something that looks good.

Also if you could get just to a mesh and a texture, it's possible  that the model could be rebuilt from there.
