View Full Version : Another Shooter I've made

I made this game a LONG time ago and wanted to share it. Recently, I've remade this game to far better, but I wanted to show this one first. From what I tell, this game is somewhat difficult, yet fun.

If you get a wierd error about sound or something, ignore it. It probably shouldn't bother you.

Star Warrior
Designed to be like a poorly translated Japanese game
The story is also nonexistant. Just shoot whatever you encounter.

Arrow Keys = Move
Space Bar = Shoot
(No, you can't shoot behind you! People have already asked about that!)

You download it here!
http://www.mediafire.com/file/57a9ls9f4s4ad9m/stype_f1.a2w

Edit
Almost forgot! The game is on the "hard" difficulty. To change it, go to the world variables and change "difficulty" to false!

EDIT AGAIN:
THE FINAL GAME IS ON POST 10!

Inspired by Gunstar Heroes? There was a boss just like this in that game, though it was only one of his many phases.

The shooting method should be faster, since pressing the Space bar too quickly causes it to fire repeatedly after I've stopped, meaning the shooting method is slower than the time it takes me to press and release the space bar.

The boss itself is kind of difficult to dodge, let alone defeat, since it can hover on the left side of the screen for as long as it wants, attacking me while I can't attack it.

The boss also takes damage from collision with my ship. Not sure if this is intentional, but it is uncommon.

Feedback...

Pros:

No glitches encountered!
Good challenge
Great sounds!

Cons:

Sometimes you cant hit the gun when it's reloading
I didnt know the controls until I just guessed

Overall

85/100 by Chrome Games

This game has great potential and is good overall. I didnt know the conrols until I guessed so I lost quite a bit of health in the beginning. The animations were ok and the boss reloading could of looked better. But good job!

Ah! I expected that you would encounter those issues! ;)

I made this game MANY MANY months ago. Since then, I have remade it! And it is far better than this one!

It has an options menu, 3 difficulty modes, the RIDICULOUS MODE, and many other things!

I'm going to upload it in a brief moment. :D

zero00
04-11-2011, 03:57 PM
Here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/sr4aa9y0p922wdf/fighterXV.a2w

The remade game:

The controls are the same as the other game

Arrow keys = Move
Space = Shoot (You can shoot as fast as you can click now!)
P = Pause!

Press Enter while on the Title Screen to enter the Options Menu
Ignore the "Press I for more info". It doesn't do anything useful yet.

More Options:
Change the "difficulty" world variable to 0, 1, or 2 (easy to hardest)

Toggle ridiculous mode by changing the "ridiculous_mode" to true or false

Edit:
Pretty much everything has been changed!
The revolver still reloads the same (intentionally!). It also has a "bug" you can exploit! (for those daring and lazy players). I could get rid of it, but I won't.

To x2495iiii: I intended for the spinning boss to be effectively invisible by being behind you ;D
The "taking damage" part that was unintended :P Its fixed now, though.

So do you want me to review this one too?

zero00
04-11-2011, 11:15 PM
Yes.

Don't worry. I think it's different enough to warrant another review.

arty-fishL

that was absolutely insane, very well done, but I didnt have a clue what to shoot

Pros:

No glitches encountered!
Very Hard
Even better sounds!

Cons:

Ship doesnt move fast enough to escape danger
Did not know what to shoot

Overall

87/100 by Chrome Games

This is better than the last one. This could pass on as an official game. This is amazing! But you can't move out of the way of the bullets, I died so quickly and got gameover twice without even figureing out if I even hit the boss. I dont know where his health is.

(...unless I decide to work on it again)

Controls are the same:
Arrow keys ===== Move
Space ======== Shoot
P ============ Pause

Improvements

Text added for first-time players
Improved HUD
Difficulty can changed in-game
Slightly changed credits

Your Goal
Defeat them all!

So, I dont think I am going to review it again. Review is when you post the final game, I reveiw it

zero00
04-21-2011, 08:02 PM
That was fast!

You don't need to review it again. The gameplay is pretty much unchanged.

Edit: BTW, what game did you rate the highest?

jediaction
04-22-2011, 08:28 AM
Yup...anyway, the highest score I have given so far is an 87 to Escape the Kitchen. You should try to beat it. Anything in the 90's is very very good and is something that is very hard to do in Alice. Check out my chrome games review thread to see all the scores for all games

My favorite game! :D

I played it again, brilliant. It took me forever to kill the urchin, especially when it started doing that teleporting thingy, and then the energy core just destroyed me. Great game though. Its in my favourites.

Points that make it great -
- Addictive, very much so.
- Great graphics, great animations.
- Fun and suitable sound effects and music.
- Wonderful gameplay, its not pointless or repetitive.
- Challenging.
- Nice GUI.
- Consistent theme, throughout.
- Enjoyable :D:D:D.

More reviews. Now we have more than one critic

arty-fishL
04-23-2011, 08:09 PM
Nah, you can be the reviewer, I just wanted to rate stuff (the text above is what I put first -it wasn't a review, I added the stars in an edit).

zero00
04-23-2011, 08:58 PM
Has anyone tried the ridiculous mode?

Also, I feel a slight need to a "final boss" to the game. Does anyone think I should?

arty-fishL
04-23-2011, 09:04 PM
Well, i've tried easy mode and I didn't get past the power core, so I never even thought about ridiculous mode, or a final boss.

zero00
04-23-2011, 09:12 PM
If it helps, all of the bosses have certain patterns allowing you to predict their attacks.

However, on harder difficultys, I mixed up those patterns, but kept their health the same. (Some will do more damage, though)

arty-fishL
04-24-2011, 06:29 AM
I know that about the patterns, that's how I was playing it, but it was still hard and sometimes (after a while or after their health got low - I'm not sure which one) they would start doing new things.

zero00
04-24-2011, 07:51 AM
You're probably thinking of Urchin Force. But yes, I intended for the game to be difficult.:D

This is the same error I went over before elsewhere just a couple of days ago.
Notice this part in the error: math.Int
You do not have the latest version of Alice installed, the latest version has the int function under world > functions > advanced math

If it wouldn't be a bother, can I ask where you got the sounds?

zero00
06-06-2011, 02:31 PM
The music came from the Radiant Silvergun and Gunstar heroes soundtracks

As for the sound effects, those came from a variety of games, including:
-Source engine games (like Half Life, Left 4 Dead, TF2 etc.)
-Gunstar Heroes (mostly for Urchin Force's and Core Force's attacks)
-The emergency sound came from "Alien Soldier"

Which sounds do you mean, specifically? Theres a lot of them :D

I'm not really sure what kind of error that is.

Hmm, no math errors...that means it is not the newest version, but try it anyway

Because of my Halo: The Generator, review, zero wanted me to review this game as well, here goes:

(If you guys don't already know the formula of my reviews, view the 'Halo In Alice' thread and check out it's review that I made or just take a guess on what my reviewing system goes like)

Snowfire Game Presents....

Sky Warrior: The Review

Presentation
------------
Sky Warriors GUIs are ok. The buttons are displayed in a very neat fashion and they look good too. They are also readable and don't feel to big or too small. My one issue with the GUI is that your spaceship is the cursor for this. Why is this so bad? The ship moves slower because of a development decision. That makes the GUIs slower than they should be. This isn't the greatest problem in the world and it's probably just me being picky, but in my opinion there should've been some mouse-click avaliability there. Other than that the controls are layed out fine and the credits are good and apealing. Unlike your standard video game credits, which is merely the developers trying to cram all the names into the screen in a scrolling fashion before they run out of space, creating small words that is pointless to read, you get a nice view of some eye-friendly text while you give your fingers a break from killing boss fights. There's no story, but that's acceptable since this is an arcade-style game. The small cinimatics that show a boss fight approching (etc.) are nice too. Upon proof reading I also came across this one issue: you use the ship to select menu icons but the games controls aren't displayed until after you start playing, people who want to configure options before they originally play must figure things out for themselves

Audio/Video
-----------
This game looks great. Dispite being an alice game, it manages to show some uniqueness in the visual style and instead of looking like alice, it looks like a 3D, side-scrolling, arcade shooter that you'd find at one of those arcades attached to the mall. That's not to say the visuals are perfect, while viewing the constantly moving background looks nice without being overwhelming, there could've been more visual variety. Possibly a new background each boss fight? It's especially dissapointing this wasn't acomplished since there was only 3 bosses to begin with. On the bright side of things you can change to a different theme in the options menu but in the end you're seeing the same blur of animation throughout the entire course of the game. The sounds of the game are perfect. Everything sounds realistic and they don't ever lag or overlap and sound horrible. The music is also stunning making you never want to play this game without wearing your headset or having your speakers plugged in.

Gameplay
---------
The gameplay is a simple Side-Scroll shooter. What makes this so special? It's tough, really tough. Unlike alot of Alice games (that you'll find on this community, mostly by new alice users who made the game for school), where you'll be able to beat it in one running of the world unless you come across a bug, this game will have you useing alices restart button quite alot. It's difficult on the easiest difficulty settings, and there are harder difficulty settings to choose. There's even a 'Rediculous' mode which pits you against all 3 boses at once, you can even make this mode harder!

Replay Value
------------
As I mentioned earlier, there are lots of extra difficulty tweaking you can do, and you can tweak things like the bullet type as well. This will be keeping the game on your screen for a while. Unfortunately there are no other modes, and no easter eggs or acheivements.

The Verdict
-----------

Presentation - 9.0/10
Audio/Video - 9.0/10
Gameplay - 10/10
Replay Value - 8.5/10

Final Score - 9.0/10(Impressive)

Note: I won't be reviewing the second game. Sorry :( It does take about a half hour to write these reviews... So long in fact that there has never been an occasion where the forums don't log me out for inactivity before I can finish posting. That's why I copy the contents of the review before I submit!

I don't agree with your replay value. This game has no replay value. Difficulty does not count, but if you are adding that than that is a different story. Btw, a half an hour...IGN guys play the whole entire game! But yah, this is Alice so....good job!

When you log in make sure you have it set to "Keep Me Logged In" or whatever synonym the forum login has... I haven't logged out in months.

Why doesn't difficulty count towards replay value?

Difficulty has always counted towards replayability, there were never achievements or trophies or whatever is out on the major consoles now, back in the day on the atari or nes or even sega, games would be so hard you were more than likely never be able to finish them without resorting to cheating or devoting your life to perfect the game(billy michael) which some games were easy but those were usually the ones you would never replay again, and today, people have it sooo easy with a save/checkpoint system that I personally find it to ruin games since they really are not that difficult anymore, even Halo's legendary or COD's veteran I find mind numbingly easy
