Well, if we are on the subject of games, I'd like to recommend an online role-playing game that I have been playing for a while (the last year almost? whats wrong with me?) It has a well developed community, of which I am part, 3 free classes, and many other classes available to those who chose to pay for their play.
The only thing is, the entire game is text-based and can be a bit difficult to learn, but once you know how to play it, you can easily be one of the best players online.:):cool:

Well, assuming my dietarily-challenged friend has reawoken from his cookie rush, then yes I am referring to command & conquer 3. I FINALLY downloaded the demo (much emphasis on FINALLY since the download took 12 hours to download.....friggin' wireless connection...:mad: ), and I must say, even as limited as it is, we may be looking at the next great strategy game to hit the market.

1. I now have Photoshop, and it totally pwns. I've edited this Nod Cyborg Commando into a golden Cyborg Guardian. Not much, but editing colors and such was a great way for me to learn how to use it. :)

I've done some more work... this time, I've enhanced the background to something more fitting. The horizon was supposed to be a sandstorm, since it is in a wasteland, but it looks like fires and/or a cloudy horizon. By now, I really don't know what it really is, so just use your imagination. :D

Maybe just editing the skins off pre existing models can give us decent results... resize parts of it to what you need.

How do you export object skins again?

Kinda like a Warcraft III remodeling, because many do the same thing, with editing just the skins but keeping the model and its hierarchy, instead of creating a brand new model. (Hard to do in alice anyway)

Just decompress the .a2c file and look for the texture – it’s (nearly?) always in .png format. I recommend using 7-Zip - WinZip usually (always?) won’t decompress the texture file. (WinRAR also seems to work but I haven’t tried it much.)

To just take a quick look at a skin, just add a billboard with any old texture (256x256 pixels is a good size) and then use the object's skin as a texture for the billboard. You can actually print out this image, edit it and import it back as a new skin - but the dimensions get stretched a bit and the mapping of the new texture to the underlying mesh may be a bit off (and - by Murphy's Law - always at the most critical point. :rolleyes: )

By the way, you don't have to edit all of the new skin - just use the old skin for the sub-parts in the hierarchy you don't want to change. (Obviously you have to change the lowest parts in the hierarchy last.)

I have to get two projects completed in two days.. have a test tomorrow. And today was my only day off until next week.

I have a 'random movement' thingy as part of one of my projects.. however, one flaw is that I can't control the objects from moving offscreen.. though I DO have ideas to fix this 'user enhancement'.. ;)

I haven't even gotten started on the second project, yet. Not that I mind, it should be relatively easy work.. if nothing else, I can work on it after I get off work tonight.

Wow! I'm not familiar with the community, myself, being far too new to Alice and co. A touching story though. I think it's great that he's being so positive about it.

One part in particular reached me. I wish more husbands could recognize this. Maybe more of them would get to stay husbands that way.

Yes, it is a heavy burden, but not insurmountable. There are many of us who carry a similar one and not all of us have been forced to due to the death of a spouse. I'm sure she'll come along and in time, be fine. People have an amazing ability to overcome apparently insurmountable odds...something I try to remember daily in my own life.

In order to create a new "Object" you first need to write the code for the "Class". You can not make/create NEW Classes in Alice. Alice does not currently provide that capability. However, you can use inheritance to create a new object from an existing Class in Alice. Some people are creating "Objects" outside of Alice and then importing them to be used in animations. However, Alice is meant to be a means of learning Object Oriented Programming.

For example, you can take the current IceSkater class and use inheritance to create a new IceSkater class.

Alice v2.0 does not allow you to write the code necessary to create a new class.

I hope that makes sense.:) And even if it doesn't, have fun with Alice.

Ok, this is wierd... I tryed to get on this site with Firefox on my Dell, but every time I do it says this "Bad Request Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand."

If I use Internet explorer on the Dell it lets me, and when I use Firefox on my Mac its fine too. Anybody else expirancing this problem?

I couldn't find a formal intro thread. I'm really new and I feel out of place here, but oh well. I'm going to an Alice summer camp in 3 weeks, and it's a one week camp. I want to be prepared for it, and not go in to it totally ignorant, seeing as though I only just found out what Alice was in June. :confused: I really need some help. I'm afraid the camp is going to be too complex for me; I'm only in eighth grade, and everyone here seems to at least be in High school. What do I do?????:eek:

Well first of all, don't panic. The camp will probably be well organized for beginners (Alice is great for that). :)

Second - look at some of the "how do I do that" threads. Not obvious where they are - but usually you can figure out from the title.

Third - don't worry about your age. I'm probably 50+ years older than you are (and have a Ph.D.) - but there are several people your age who are better at computer graphics than I am.
