The best VALUE 3D animation software is Blender. Any other software worth it? Anyone using 3D max or Maya? I need to know the industry standard or high end 3D animation software please.

3ds max and Maya are what the pros use.

Blender is what the indie pros use.

Other software either isn't powerful or mainstream enough to be worth a lot of time spent learning it.

What you need to learn is a workflow. People generally don't stick to one program for everything. Y'see, I use 3ds Max. I hear Maya is more suited towards animation, however, so when I finish modeling in 3ds Max, I export it to Z-Brush to add fine details to the model, then I import it back into 3DS Max to texture and rig it. After that I will export the completed model to an animation program. In this situation, I export it to Maya. Alternatively, you can use 3ds Max's in-house animation tools, or a third party animation tool such as MikuMikuDance.

Maya is a high-end 3D computer graphics and 3D modelling software package, originally by Alias Systems Corporation but now owned by Autodesk under its Media and Entertainment division. Autodesk. It is often used in the film and TV industry, as well as for computer and video games.
Maya comes in two main versions, Maya Complete (the less powerful package) and Maya Unlimited. Maya Unlimited is now priced similarly to other 3D programs, but used to be considerably more expensive.

I started using Blender but for some reasons, I am now going back to what I used a few years ago Maya. I used Maya for about 3 years until my computer was upgraded and the program didn't work anymore. I'm getting it again though, and it is very useful and powerful. Very Overwhelming at first and after your learn about 15% of it (It will take about 25 hours) you should be good enough to begin working with the animation fluidly. And like Bob said above, it is used for movies. I believe Pixar uses it. For game making, some professional companies use 3ds Max. Animation is always done in Maya(it's what it's built for). Now looking at what the comments say above, You guys have a pretty good over view of Maya and 3ds Max.
