It would be nice to see how much time my uploads to this site would take.

Well, once you get used to your internet speed, you kinda automatically make a mind timer. Uploading 20MB files for me takes about 45 seconds. 1MB takes about 2 Seconds. I've uploaded hundreds of files, so I am firmiliar with my Internet Speed.

My internet speed sucks so when I have to upload stuff it takes like 5 mins.

whats your speed?

My internet speed sucks so when I have to upload stuff it takes like 5 mins.

whats your speed? My internet speed sucks too because I have to use a ridiculous WIFI connection to my router as its too far to easily put in an Ethernet cable. Download speed - 1.43 Mb/s , Upload speed 0.43 Mb/s , I score a national grade of F on speedtest.net . My speed has always been terrible, barely surpassing 2 Mb/s when wired up anyway.

EDIT - scrap what I said, I rebooted my router (it has been running for a good month or so), Download speed - 1.85 Mb/s , Upload speed 0.46 Mb/s , I score a national grade of D- on speedtest.net

EDIT - I thought I would do a pingtest.net one too -

EDIT again - well, speed seems to vary actually, but here is an image:

Download Speed: 5613 kbps (701.6 KB/sec transfer rate)<---BAD:mad:
Upload Speed: 418 kbps (52.3 KB/sec transfer rate)<----HORRIBLE:mad::mad:

5613 / 1024 = 5.48 mb/s
418 / 1024 = 0.41 mb/s
That's megaBITS, not megaBYTES, that's the way internet speed is done.
A transfer rate of 5.48 megabytes/s would be awesome.

I conclude that my internet is worse.

Oops, haha. :/ I usually just assume everything is in bytes. :/

Thanks arty. : )

OH YEAH!?
Mr. Kidnapper has a 1.5 Mbps intarwebs, which translates to about 200KB/s download speed, and a ~.6 Mbps upload rate, which translate to about 20KB/s upload speed (Hardly anyone needs to upload.) Yeaaaaah. Beat that. It's also why I don't like to upload anything. Had this intarwebs for about 12 years now.

This is why I do not like the move away from physical disks and towards downloading and streaming. Not only do I like to physically posses my game/movie etc, but also some people do not have the speeds required to stream things nicely, some people don't even have an internet connection.

Is 25 mbps download and 1 mbps upload good?

arty-fishL
01-10-2012, 06:14 PM
Yes, it is very good, about as good as Jedi's.

I presume you both have fibre optic or something, there seems to be a vast difference between fibre optic and standard broadband, at least where I live there is.

Standard broadband = ~2-5 mb/s
Fibre optic = ~20 mb/s

Here in the UK, Virgin Media offer 100 mb/s broadband in limited areas, 50 mb/s in a wider range and 20 mb/s almost everywhere else.

I'm not exactly sure what I have, but as far as I know. My internet was upgraded to something better about 1 year ago.

Yeah, I got a C+.

Maybe I'll post the pic tomorrow.

Now I need sleep.
I tested again.

My connection is still slow, but ...
I got an A on pingtest.net yay :D! Slow, yet stable internet (not sure that's a good thing.
http://www.pingtest.net/result/56390829.png (http://www.pingtest.net)

Interestingly though, the fastest speeds available around my area are about 3Mb/s with ~0.9Mb/s being the slowest. Fibre optic is unavailable where I live. So a terrible connection would be expected.

Still, I've got a wonderful computer, I do a lot of offline stuff and I don't usually stream things, so the speeds I am faced with are super fast.

Hehe, your going to sleep, it was 9:42 AM local time (GMT) when you posted that.

Well Gentlemen, my internet is worse than all of yours. Just imagine the worst possible internet ever. Lets put it in comparison, you know when you go on youtube and you watch a video, and it loads faster than you watching it? Well even if I put it on 240p, a regular video will load about the same as the viewing speed.

GameKid

nope.

It was worth a shot. At least crappy cable service can be used for something.
