Wut is Alice?

Ok I'm going to be using alice for my computers class in a couple of days so I'm wondering wut the heck it is. Is it like flash or something? Is it a 3d engine or some WIYWSG editor. What is it? Also, it mentios that 3d models are created in 3dsMax. Can you use Blender or Maya PLE? Thanks alot if u can tell me!

alice is a really really really simplfied version of "programming"
pretty much you pick characters like fairies pixies and other assorted creatures and you make them do stuff by click-and-drag methods and orders of what you want

it has 3d characters to make programming "friendly" and simplified
