In short, a model is 3 dimensional, while a sprite is 2 dimensional.

Find a Naruto model and we might be able to tell you.
Axes are a problem.. For people using Blender and Sketch-up. Polycount usually isn't a problem. If you mean polycount as in lag inducing, most modern low-end computers have good enough specs to play the newest Blizzard games, so it is a nonfactor. Polycount as in "The ASE format sucks", well we'll just have to split it then won't we?
