Default Version Suggestions? - 07-15-2010, 09:38 AM

Hi All,
We are currently in the process of incorporating programming unit into our 7th grade computer curriculum.
I just wanted to ask if anyone had suggestions for the version we should use.

"Alice 2.2" or "Storytelling Alice"

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Well, I am currenly going into eigth grade and have been using alice2.2 for 2 years. I understood it quite easily and to what i have heard is stronger. It shoud be picked up quickly and is just all around better. So I would advise it.
But, I probably pick up programing concepts quicker then most as I was just copying code typing it myself today and I understood what almost all of it did. The only parts I didn't understand was a couple parts with sets of numbers which I asume is the sizeof the button. It was a GUI script.

Now I haven't exactly seen Storytelling Alice in action, so my viewpoint may be slightly incorrect...

In my high school we use Alice 2.2 for Computer Programming I. From what I know, Storytelling Alice is geared more to introducing younger kids (maybe elementary or middle school) into programming, while Alice 2.2 is the same, yet more programming.

Sorry, that might have been too jumbled of a suggestion...

Stotytelling Alice is easier to program with, but I would recommend using Alice 2.2 because it is better and as far as Im aware storytelling Alice is based off of Alice 2.0, and 2.2 has more bug fixes etc.

I have mostly moved on from Alice, but may still respond to messages if important [¬º-°]¬

Thank you all. We have decided to go with 2.2 for now and may transition to "STA" if we feel it would be an improvement in the future. My personal concern is on the technical end of getting the program to run on our network as we have had trouble in the past. The fact that STA is "unsupported" concerns us.
