About the only way to know for sure is to try them - as the web site says, most of the programs were developed as research, not teaching tools. I think Smooth Teddy would be fine - if it will run on your computer (I've had some trouble on newer machines for reasons that are not clear). The new Moving Sketch also looks interesting.

At one time, you could also import models directly from Smooth Teddy into Alice - I'm not sure if that is still true, however.

A better bet, however, would probably be Scratch, described elsewhere in this forum - simply because it is actively supported.
