Question Converting models to ASE on a mac? - 01-16-2010, 11:31 AM

This has probably been asked before, but I tried searching.

I've created a custom 3D object in Wings3D and exported it to 3DS. Biturn is not available for OS X, so that's out of the question. If it helps, I do have Blender on my computer (although I don't like using it).

any Ideas?

I don't know if there are any other programs out there that convert to .ase format for Macs, but I'll check it out.

You can always post it in a zip file and I can convert it for you, though.

By the way, great work on Music Box. It's been a big help.

Thanks for the offer (converting for me), but due to the nature of this project, I'm going to have a bunch of simple shapes at different sizes and proportions. I'm not sure whats going to work, and what isn't - I don't want to be constantly bothering you.

I stumbled upon this
http://www.katsbits.com/htm/tools_utilities.htm#ase

I'm playing with it right now to see how it works.

Was the Music Box really that influential? I haven't checked this site in like a year.

Yes it was. I always referred people who had questions about using BGM in their games to your post.

If you have any success with it, please post and tell us about it.

Alright, the script works! I was able to convert the default cube you get when Blender starts up to an ASE file. I even successfully imported it into Alice.

You can tell it's from blender because of the texture, the cube in Alice is pure white (textureless).

I guess the Biturn step can now be skipped, as you can convert to ASE directly in Blender thanks to some obscure python script.

That's awesome! It's definitely good to have you back, Gillette.

So what kinds of models were you planning to convert?

I'm working on a game I plan to submit to some contest my teacher wants me to compete in. I needed some simple shapes with specific proportions, unfortunately Alice wont let me change specific proportions of shapes so I'm stuck modeling them myself. On the bright side, I now how so much more creative freedom being able to freely create and edit my own custom models.
