How do I get my Alice games to play without opening the Alice application?

You kind of have to open Alice to play a world. There are other methods that don't really work though:

- Export as a webpage (under the file menu in Alice). Functionality with this is really limited and rubbish.
- Alice player, there is a player floating around the forums somewhere, but I don't think it works properly with the latest release of Alice.
- Export as an exe from Mama, again this is limited, it works for some people, it doesn't for others. It also requires a download of Mama.
- Associate a2w files with the Alice application. I dont think this is what you are looking for, but it allows you to click on Alice worlds on file and Alice will load and automatically open them, but this still requires the Alice application to open.

But Mama, the only real other option, costs money too...

So, you're telling me that Alice sucks in the way of making your games available off the app? Oh well, thanks. I'll work something out. =3

Unity is out there. That is the best out right now

Unity 3D is harder and very different, but its easier than most other options. It has a scripting interface. You can make really good games with it, check out Jedi's ones.

It is much harder, but it will take a little while to learn. The more you use it. The more tricks you learn. I am currently working on a new game in Unity but I am also doing Halo 2. They are both going quickly, except games in Unity take months more of work to complete

You can use the world player described in this thread. It does need Alice to function, though theoretically, you could just make the whole package, Alice included, an executable if you really felt the need to distribute it, since Alice requires no installation.

Can you use games with that world player? When I try to run my games, it doesn't respond to outside input...

EDIT: Hmmm... it seems to not respond to only one of my games... i'll try it more extensively later
