No. It is not the correct version. Found and downloaded the required version, 2.5, but cannot seem to install it.
I am using windows 7, if that is any help.

I was a little disheartened, as I originally downloaded the newest Blender, which could import 3ds files, but not export them as ase, read through the thread, located the answer, thanks, re-installed the older blender and now I have this python issue.

Default Colors on model - 06-05-2012, 02:19 PM

I have Autodesk 3ds 2011. I am trying to make models to import into Alice for a summer engineering/ computer science camp that I'm counseling/teaching at. My problem is that whenever I export a model as a .ase file and import into Alice, my colors do not show unless I have only a single color or bitmap. Is there some way to get around this? Thanks.

Unfortunately Alice does not support multi-subobject mapping. What you'll have to do is either unwrap everything into a single large texture atlas, or separate each material ID group so they can individually use their relative texture slots.

I use the latter because it's faster and less of a pain, but in terms of programming efficiency you should make large texture atlases. For an example you can see my B-17 Flying Fortress or my Crysis 1 VTOL. There I detached polys from each element further based on their material ID. Unfortunately doing this is a lot of tedious work in Alice.

You can increase the visual quality slightly by going into the Seldom Used Properties and changing specular and emissive properties. They just add a little shine, but it's far better than all of your properties being matte.

You don't import .a2w files.

You just open Alice, then go to File>Open World and choose weapons.a2w.
