Info
Before downloading on PCs check these requirements:
Operating system requirements:
- Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
Minimum hardware requirements:
- a VGA graphics card capable of high (16 bit) color
- 128 MB of RAM
- video resolution of 1024x768
- A sound card
Note: If you are using a projector to display Alice in a classroom, you may be limited to a resolution of 800x600 by the projector. Although we don't recommend running Alice at this resolution, Alice will still run fine.
Recommended hardware requirements:
- 16 MB 3D video card (TNT, i810, Rage 128, GeForce, Radeon equivalent or better)
- 256 MB of RAM
Note: If you have a laptop make sure your video card meets these specifications. A new laptop with a fast processor and ample amounts of RAM may still have a video card with only 8 MB of RAM.
Download and Installation Instructions
Alice does not require "installation" in the same way that many other software applications do. All we really need is a place on the machine's hard drive to copy files. As a result, the installation of Alice should succeed on machines where others would fail. Simply download and extract the files within, as you would any other zip file. It will create an Alice folder within which you can run the Alice application (Alice.exe).
Please send any feedback you have to alice-admin@cs.cmu.edu.
Please report any bugs you find at the Alice Bugs Database.
One can acquire zip file extraction software from http://www.winzip.org/.
