Infiltration (Shooting game)

tuscaloosaacademy.org/infiltration.a2w

The name of the game is Infiltration, and it is a shooting game that takes place in the year 2304. For some computers, this game refuses to correctly show some of the text, so for those who cant see any text at the beginning, here is what is says.

The Story So Far:
You are a soldier of the US army in the year 2304. Your
mission is to infiltrate an enemy base and take out all that
stand in your way. Then, make your way over and kill one
of the worst soldier bots ever created. This bot is the cause
of over 5000 US casualties, he needs to be dealt with. Get
inside, and take him out. You can do it, we believe in you.

When you press next, this next message comes up:

Your ship has crashed into the building, walk around
using the arrow keys, use the space bar to shoot
use M to melee, and use T to roll left and Y to roll right
when you get outside. Use F to do a quick turn. Also, use
grenades to take out the watch towers . They could see
our ships in the distance and pull the alarm. Go destroy
it as soon as possible. Press G to use grenades.

Hopefully, none of the other text will dissapear or become larger. Also, there is no collision detection at all, meaning that you can walk through any wall. Please, if you walk through a wall, just walk back into the level. This game is hard when you first start out playing it. You MUST use the roll feature. It is one of the most important aspect of the game, which is why I spent so much time perfecting it. Use it to roll out of the way of danger. Also, dont try to Melee the rocket man, you WILL die. Also, grenades wont hurt the boss, only, your gun will. There might be more bugs and stuff that I havent found or forgot to mention, if there are, tell me, I would love the feedback. When you are done playing, tell me what you think. Also, this game is big and complicated, some slower computers will not run it smoothly, some computers might not run it at all. So now, I am proud to release this game for all to play, I hope you enjoy it! This game is 35,575 KB. The game is above, just put in the URL.

Chris101b 10-30-2007 08:07 PM

Is it working for you? Has anyone played it?

DickBaldwin 10-31-2007 11:31 AM

I am in the process of making an awesome shooting game.

I believe it was you who posted several messages with words like the following:

"I am in the process of making an awesome shooting game."

Just a word of advice from someone who has been around the block a few times and has made numerous mistakes in the process. It is usually better to produce the result and then have others tell you how awesome it is rather than to tell others how awesome it is going to be and then have to make a lot of excuses as to why it isn't so awesome after all once you do the work.

But that's just my opinion. You may have a different opinion.

Well stated.

I was able to download and run the program. It ran rather choppy on my computer, which isn't a very fast computer.

I couldn't find much of anything to shoot at. Everything appeared to be in a dense fog and I had a hard time telling one shape from another. Even when I saw shapes, I ran right through them apparently due to the lack of collision detection. Perhaps I was just unable to navigate into the right neighborhood to find the exciting action.

I also couldn't figure out how to look up, which seemed rather unnatural, particularly since Alice supports pitch in addition to roll and yaw. I recall seeing instructions for the arrow keys and the T, Y, M, F, and G keys. Maybe I just missed the instructions on how to look up.

The music was exciting though. I wonder who owns the copyright on the music:confused: Hope that the owner doesn't mind you publishing it in your game. (See http://news.softpedia.com/news/Prince-Wants-To-Stop-The-YouTube-Phenomenon-65543.shtml)

My opinion...
Interesting: Yes
Awesome: No
But, it does appear that you put a lot of effort into the project. Perhaps you should look into the use of a more powerful game engine.

I can't seem to download it...

Chris101b 11-03-2007 01:32 AM

you cant look up and down. I thought it would add unneccesary gaemplay ot the game. Also, the dense fog is from the ship which you were in which crashed. Also, if you are confused about where to go, here is a guide. WARNING SPOILERS:

You start out in a room with the crashed ship in front of you. turn around until you see the door. You have to melee (M) it open. Then turn left and walk down the hall. walk to the door and it will automaticaly pusch you through. turn right, walk a little bit, turn right again and walk straight. When you enter the hallway, an enemy should come into view unarmed while choking on the smoke. shoot and kill him. walk through the door he cam out of and go through the teleporter on the left. when you walk through, the smoke will dissapear, and you will appear in a garden with a large tree in the middle. in front of the tree is an enemy with a rocket. use the roll feature to dive out of the way of the rockets he shoots and kill him. (dont get too close though). then walk around the tree and outside. Trees and rocks and bushes are placed to your left and right and there is a watch tower with an enemy in it to the left. use the black ridecule (shows where your grenades go) on your screen to throw a grenade and take down the tower. Then walk to the other end of the pathway to the giant temple. walk near the door and once again you will be forced through. Then use your gun to kill the boss. When he is dead, game over. The end.

Once again, you need to have a fast computer to play this game effectively. Also, download it and then go into alice and open it from alice. For example:

type in tuscaloosaacademy.org/infiltration.a2w
then press save to disk
it should then download to the desktop
when it is done, go into alice and go to open
go through the tabs until you ge to your desktop and click on the game
I have tested it and it does work

gun

Where did you get your gun object from?

Chris101b 11-04-2007 10:46 PM

I made it using the bad guy robot. I morphed him into the shape of a gun and and made it smaller. I used that same model in the Halo 3 Starry Starry night trailer that I made a while ago. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QYIAbkdAwM

penguinron29 11-05-2007 01:45 PM

Oooh alright I was wondering what in the world it was, haha. I need to make a shooter in my class assignment also, is it alright if I use your idea?

Chris101b 11-05-2007 09:53 PM

What do you mean my idea?

penguinron29 11-05-2007 10:29 PM

I meant using bad robot as a gun for my character.

DickBaldwin 11-06-2007 08:26 AM
Oooh alright I was wondering what in the world it was, haha. I need to make a shooter in my class assignment also, is it alright if I use your idea?
Why not do something creative for a change and write a first-person fly swatter game. Your character could move through the Alice world swatting bugs - (not the kind that keeps the IEEERemainder method from working properly, but the kind that are available in the Alice gallery).

If I had a child enrolled in a programming course where the teacher required the students to write shooter programs, I would write a letter of complaint to the school board, recommend that the teacher be fired, and remove my student from the class.

Of course you can. I made this game not just for myself, but so that others can use the ideas from it to make games too. If you want to know what I used, how i did health, how I made the player roll and come back to the same EXACT hight, feel free to ask, that is what I made it for.

I'd like the version that gets rid of the real bugs! :)

For each project we get assigned in class, we're required to make a world with specific requirements. For instance, the first project had several requirements including exchanges of dialogue, use of the vehicle property, among others. Each of our subsequent projects have very different requirements, and it just so happens that we're required to make a game where objects are shot at in this case.

It would be nice to have more wiggle room when doing these assignments for the sake of originality, but I figure that the reason why we're so limited is because students might work around the focus of the project, and bypass concepts that we're expected to learn.

Ping 11-07-2007 01:43 AM

you guys are being way to hard on the kid. give him a break, sure his program has poor collision detection, and poor ai, and a huge memory leak...but still, its his first big project from what i can tell and you shouldn't be so hard on him. And by the way, i would be more than glad to help you fix any problems you have with your game, i think its pretty neat. I am actually a big halo fan myself, so working on your program with you would be an honor. Hit me up if your interested, and as for the *Teaching* community, i would think you guys would have a little more self discipline than to go and crush a child's spirits by telling them their program is not what they had hoped it to be.
Sorry for having to rant on like this, but i am furious at some of the comments i have read in this thread.

Chris101b is not some naive kid who is working on his first big project. This is the exceptionally talented individual who used Alice to produce the very impressive (and dare I say awesome) Halo 3 Starry Night video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QYIAbkdAwM

Chris101b clearly knows how to use Alice in a very effective way. Although this is not my area of expertise, in my opinion, the visual and audio effects in the video are outstanding. I doubt that Chris101b is a child. If so, I am truly impressed that a child could produce the video mentioned above, and I agree that I may have been a little too hard on the child.

It is not an elementry school. It is a private school which houses preschool to seniors. I am 16 and I am in the 11th grade.

Ping 11-07-2007 01:38 PM

o haha, sorry im on your side!!!! learn your allies from your enemies, but like i said before i did enjoy your program although it was very confusing lol. i was running around in a dense fog for like...3 minutes

Yeah, I know you are, but I just wanted to let people know I am not 7 years old. Haha. Anyway, if anyone ever gets confused, there is a guide on the first page, go look at it.
It is not an elementry school. It is a private school which houses preschool to seniors. I am 16 and I am in the 11th grade.
And a very talented 16-year old student you are.

But I still maintain that it is better to do the work first and then reap the praise rather than the other way around. In the business world, that is known as "managing expectations."

I predict that there is a successful career in your future.

I don't know why it isn't working. Maybe over the summer, my teacher deleted it while cleaning out the system. I will ask her tomorrow if she can get it back up.

Not very good

I thought it was very confusing. I could not see the controls at the beginning, you should try to make it more user friendly.

Chris101b 01-30-2009 10:21 AM

Wait, what? The directions do appear in the beginning. The first paragraph is the back story, and when you click on the next button, a paragraph tells you how to play, and then when you click next again, the game starts. I apologize for this game though, when I was making it, I barely knew how to make games. The design of the game is a little cluttered. (This is actually a pretty old game of mine) I am working on Infiltration 2 now. Well, I was, but then I was also working on War Zone 2, and then I stopped working on that for about a month now because I am a senior this year and school has really been getting to me. Ill have to start working on them both soon again (After I apply to the schools I want to go to. I'm also in the play, so I might be slow at starting)

Meatwad 01-30-2009 10:55 AM

not to bad man, but why dont you use a different gun that looks more realistic? If you need some I can easily upload some.

Chris101b 01-31-2009 04:11 AM

Well, I don't want to use a modern gun, I wanted to use a futuristic gun. Plus, that weapon is almost a symbol of me now. I have used that in every single video or game that I have made. It looks good and I think it is pretty well made. Look for the Infiltration 2 beta and download it. I am trying to make the game much better than the original. Right now, the beta has nothing to accomplish, you just run around and mess with the controls of the game. I want to get the gameplay right before i start making the full game. In that game, there is an alternate firing mode, but no secondary weapon.

dubastot 04-30-2009 05:48 PM

Way too confusing! And choppy, improve on the animations.

dubastot 04-30-2009 06:21 PM

I know I couldn't do better, but I have played games like Crysis and Call of Duty 4 before so I have high expectations.

HisWorld 05-01-2009 01:22 AM
I know I couldn't do better, but I have played games like Crysis and Call of Duty 4 before so I have high expectations.
:confused:wow are how could you relate something like that? That like saying the best independent film at some college is not good because you've watch the move 300.:D

haha, this is a game one person spent time making, those games your are talking about cost 10's of millions to produce by design teams in total of more than 100 people who all spent several years.

Come on put this in perspective alittle before you comment like that.

Chris101b 05-15-2009 09:41 PM

Yeah, I know that it isn't as good as crysis.... you are really comparing this to crysis..... REALLY?? But I have another game (Sequel) That i am "Currently" working on. The animations are much much much better, and the coding is much more complex. This game was made when I had no clue how to use variables and all the things that you need to use to make a truly good game. But now that I have figured all of that out, my other game is much better and bug free (at the moment).

Now, right now the game isn't really a game, it is an engine beta. That means that I am just trying to get the characters movements and stuff down before I actually start adding content (enemies, AI, environments, etc.). So there is currently no objective, all you can do is run around, shoot, reload, zoom in with a sniper, and roll. There is also a health system, so you can press J to hurt yourself and after a while, your health will start to heal. Here is a link to that game. Maybe this one will please you.
