Parameter Editing

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and creating a Checkers game. I would say I have intermediate skill in Alice, but I lack some of the basics.

For instance, in creating my Checkerboard I planned to start out with "square" objects, but I couldn't orient them properly (flat on the ground). I then moved to using Cubes, since I could situate them more easily and they begin "flat" on the ground (the square was standing up). Now I am in the process of slowly but surely moving them tenth by tenth so they are all aligned exactly right.

I assume there MUST be an easier way to do this? How can I size the cubes exactly how I want? And how can I place them (via numbers) exactly where I want?

If the question isn't clear, let me know so I can be more helpful in my request.

Try importing a texture.

I haven't found a real easy way to get things precisely positioned in Alice.

For the checkerboard, trying to create the board in 2D and import it as a billboard. At least for .png files, Alice's import function will support alpha level transparency. You can then place the billboard where you want it and tilt it for the best camera angle.

Object Replace

Well I went through and did the work meticulously. That's kind of how I work anyway, so it wasn't a big deal, since at least I got to see the numbers with the POV function.

My new question is this: I want to allow a user to select a "character" which is some object to represent their checker. I have created object-variable globals that hold the particular object that is selected (this appears to work so far).

Now what I've done is placed actual checkers on the board in the starting position (I used a hockey puck as a placeholder). Is there a way to replace the puck-object with the one that the user selected?
