Me or X. Anyway, HEY DUB!!! It's been a while. Where have you been!

DensetsuNoKaboom 11-26-2011 08:56 AM

On the topic of Resident Penguin, I found a glitch that may have been noticed before:

1) Get the Shining Lance.
2) Start using it.
3) While firing it, press Space to pause.
4) Unpause.
5) Fire the Lance again.

If it works right, you'll get a GIANT LASER BEAM from the Shining Lance.

x2495iiii 11-26-2011 10:12 AM

I put a catch in there that was supposed to tell the game whether the beam needed to be resized or not. Guess that catch doesn't work so well.

DensetsuNoKaboom 11-26-2011 04:01 PM

Why exactly does it need resizing anyways?

x2495iiii 11-26-2011 10:35 PM

It's a normal cone, just stretched and recolored. I think for placement reasons I needed it resized every time you turned the beam on/off. If I redid it today, it would be implemented a bit better, but that's what seemed like the best idea at the time.

GameKid 12-11-2011 06:37 PM

This is extremely addicting! Any tips on how to get past the giant shiny guy? He seems invincible!
Any tips on how to get past the giant shiny guy? He seems invincible!
Shoot him absolutely lots, don't shoot the other zombies until you really have to and then quickly turn back to the "big shiny guy".

jediaction 12-12-2011 03:05 PM

It gets cheap after a while though. I stopped playing this game. I got angry at it...haha

Don't use the Shining Lance.
Don't use the Shining Lance.
This sounds a heck of a lot like a trick. Are you one of those people who take advantage of a child asking a question, just to screw with their mind? I'm sick and tired of those people.

x2495iiii 12-17-2011 12:22 AM

That's not a trick, and he's not trying to screw with your mind.

You should really stop assuming we're all out to get you. If we say something you don't understand, don't assume it's an insult. Most of the people on the Alice boards are nice, especially the regulars.

Anyway...

The Shining Lance doesn't work on the one big one. I'd gotten complaints that it made RP 2 too easy, so I gave it a flaw.

I'd recommend grenades or the triple barrel, personally, since grenades take him out in two shots and the triple barrel will let you hit the other enemies in addition to him.

Sorry. Most forums and games I connect to are not as peaceful as this one.

That is right. This is the cleanest nicest forum I have ever been on. X is correct when he says most of us are very nice. I personally do get mad some times in the community and long time members have noticed, but I do try and help as many members as I can. I am not really paying attention to my posts frequently, but once I do hit a certain mark, it just makes me feel good about it. Members have been banned for being dis-respectful and stuff, but as long as you follow the rules, you will not get banned. I'm typing this really long message for whatever reason. But my main point is...."thumbs up" on X's comment.

I do not see the point of emphasising what has already been responded to....
Please do excuse me, I guess I'd best quit snapping on a hair trigger. Nothing can go wrong here....

InsertName 12-17-2011 03:49 PM

I was on this one forum that the moderators on there were getting away with stuff that other people would not even dream of doing, AND they admitted it too.

I like this forum, its not over the top with 100's of people commenting every hour, it's personal. I can keep up with all the threads, get one on one with members if they need help (or if I need help:D). plus X is a great moderator.

DensetsuNoKaboom 12-17-2011 04:51 PM

I probably should've been more specific.

I think you should calm down just a bit. Who would want to be thought of someone who starts arguments? :o

As long as people are not jerks and don't ask for personal info I'm fine.

Ha. And I feel guilty when I do something a simple as edit someone's post.

I think the worst I've done is change dubs' avatar without him knowing.
I think you should calm down just a bit. Who would want to be thought of someone who starts arguments? :o
Subject changed.

What do you guys want to see in the next RP?

I'm planning on scrapping the class system since no one seemed to like it anyway. I'll be replacing it with a perks list separate from the guns and powers.

What else should there be?

dakota95 12-17-2011 09:58 PM

what about cheats. So that once you pass one level it will give you a cheat to skip that level and go straight to the next one.

GameKid 12-17-2011 11:04 PM
I think you should calm down just a bit. Who would want to be thought of someone who starts arguments? :o
*Tilts head and squints eyes questioningly.*
If you were hunting and shot a deer, would it do any good to shoot him again?
If you had dust under your bed and vaccumed the dust, would it do any good to stick another hose under there?
If you were building and hammered a nail into a board, what good, dare I ask, would it do to bang another hammer on the nail?
I already get your point, jediaction. No need to go on.
To the main topic, I say there should be a sentry gun, an airstrike, or another penguin to help out. Or, perhaps, a two-player option. It would be quite fun to shoot zombies with a friend or sibling.

x2495iiii 12-18-2011 12:23 AM

And the subject did not change, I see.

Oh well.

Sentry gun? Not bad.

Airstrike? That would be like an area clearer, and there's already PK Penguin in there.

Two Player? Interesting...

Cheats/Level skips? The save feature in 3.5 was supposed to fix that. But that's kind of my fault for not integrating the thing properly. I'll look into it.

Anyone else?

GameKid 12-21-2011 06:47 PM

266 kills on infinity mode, I have a triple gun and all the upgrades, and no zombies are coming. Just infinite invinci-spiders. Does that mean I won, or is it some sort of twisted easter egg?
Edit: .....Until I turn the speed up to 10x and another big shiny guy spawns.
Well played.
Also,
I probably should've been more specific.
that's quite a noble thing to say, suggesting the fact that you weren't specific instead of my dwarf temper. :)
Edit number two: Wait a second... I searched around a bit and found this.
I thought the reminder might be useful to you, if you're looking to make some sort of appearance.

- Its a penguin ... with a gun ... shooting zombies
- Sleek, informative HUD and pause menu
- Working pause menu
- Upgrades can be purchased
- Fast paced action
- Perfect atmosphere
- Gameplay is balanced well
- Option to play forever
- Addictive
- Good bullet collisions
- Non-glitchy animations
- Responsive controls

- Upgrades/Classes system can be confusing
- If you kill a zombie when it is very close it sometimes can still get you
- Occasionally zombies sponge bullets
- RPTrophies crashes after playing for a while
- Its not RP4 yet (or RP5 if you count RPTrophies as RP4)

OPINION

This game is fabulous, a shining star from an Alice expert. First of all, the concept is genius; penguin - gun - unlimited ammo - zombies. That being said, a good concept isn't enough if it is used in a terrible game, but this game is the complete opposite, it perfects the concept with style - leading to a very addictive experience.
The game works well, with responsive controls, accurate bullet collision and error-free animations. It is balanced nicely too; not too hard, you can level up fairly easily, but not too easily, with deliberately limited turning speeds, vast numbers of zombies approaching from random angles and even alternative enemies.
Playing for a while does not get boring as there are options to change the way you play, new guns, upgrades, classes. The scoring system works well too. And if you get bored after that there is even a version in which you can earn trophies for achieving certain goals.

As for negatives, there aren't many. The upgrades and classes systems could be merged, or simplified as they are too similar and potentially confusing. The bullet collision, although very accurate, could still be improved; occasionally zombies randomly sponge bullets, especially when they are very close. Zombies sometimes even still get you when you kill them at very close range. Its not getting a higher rating until said improvements and more are implemented.

ADVICE

My advice would be to get RP4 out, I cant wait any longer. The ideas you have for it seem to make sense, with the improved menus and your recent consideration for changing the upgrades/classes system. Add to this perfect bullet collision and a working trophies system and you've got yourself a winner.

Awesomeness in a nutshell; bar the few hiccups and odd bug, it is a marvellously executed piece of work that I can't help drooling over.

Since I don't use Alice pretty much at all anymore (I've been using Cinema 4D for animations), I frequent the forums less. I still browse the forums while not logged in though.
It seems Alice's popularity has increased greatly since the last time I was active. There's usually over 100 people on the forums at any given time.

Anyway, hi and bye everyone! :)

Game

I liked it and all and i hated how it froze if you sprayed and we should be able to move around.

x2495iiii 11-07-2012 11:36 AM

I should probably finish, or at least expand, RP4.

It had motion.

Though it'd probably lag and freeze like most Alice games do.

I understand you as well, I've moved on to Unity 3D, Maya, Composing, and much more. The Alice community has picked up greatly in the past 3 years and I don't think I'm needed anymore. There are so many amazing members that are so willing to help.

Great job!

I enjoyed the game and thought the final scene was pretty funny. I've referenced your game in my class project that is currently discussing cut scenes.

Thanks!
