I think the furthest I got was Level 12. The spider often gets me because I'm pretty sure it's targeted but it's not, though I think at 12 I was just overwhelmed. 
What I do is keep the left mouse button held, and spray while tossing grenades at large groups.
Grenades are extremely useful if the enemies get too close, since it's a lot faster than trying to shoot down all of them. However, you have to be careful, or it'll be so worth it  .
