Yes. There are three ways of doing that (they are less complicated than these descriptions may make them seem):

A. By changing your default editor
  1. Make Gimp your default image editing program

B. By using the feature designed for this
  1. Use "Edit Texture in External Application" as before.
  2. When paint opens, close it.
  3. In the popup window in Alice, click the "Copy Path" button.
  4. Open Gimp and use File > Open (or CTRL+O).
  5. Click the little icon in the top left that has a pencil on paper.
  6. Paste in the text (CTRL+V) into the Location bar that is now visible.
  7. Finally press the ENTER key to open it.
  8. Edit the image, save it and then click the "Done" button in Alice, as before.

C. By exporting, editing and importing again
  1. Use "Save Texture Image to File".
  2. Save to a memorable location.
  3. Open up the file in Gimp and edit as you wish.
  4. Use "Replace Texture Image From File".
  5. Find the image file.
  6. Options A and B create a temporary file that deletes itsef, this method doesn't, so you may wish to delete the image file after use.
