Exclamation Hey Chris 101b! - 09-11-2010, 11:38 AM

Hey Chris 101b. Ive seen your videos on youtube, which are very helpful.
I played your Infiltration 2 Beta Version and wondered how did you make the factory solid so when you apprach to it you stop instead of going right through it like it always happens?
Thanks.

patsito, what you want is called "collision detection", and its harder to put into a game than you might think. If you want you can look at my "maze" game in my signature and there will be a method called "collisionDetection", which will show how I made the collisions work. You basically make tons of walls wherever you want to collide with, and then have an infinite loop making sure that if the character touches any of those walls, the wall pushes them back.

you can actually make a long game in alice. the camara zooms in on anything so if you want to make a long game make everything at least 10 times smaller and the speeds slower and zoom in the camara...

Or you could make the ground 3 times bigger, and then you have more room to expand. Or just create multiple copies of the ground and have them next to each other.

It's not really size that's a constraint, it's speed.

Alice lags when too many things are happening at once.

You could make a fair RPG with it if you wanted, but action is mostly out of the question.

i think alice was ment to make a level of a video game. not an entire game but i think its the same with other video games because they always have to load each level and if they where all in the same place it wouldn't have to load every level...

Thats right, Alice does not have the capability to load multiple programs at once like other games can do. In Alice you would have to have every object of every level in one world, which would make it lag incredibly.

I thought about that before but I have no clue. My Halo game should be a multilevel game so expect more than one level!
