Question 12-13-2007, 07:29 AM

I see probably 2 Problems

1. Your Alice file is in your F: Drive, And alice's Directory is is in your C: Drive

2. Your computer probably has problems with zip files... Does your alice files save as .zip?

Normally this shouldn't be a problem. I load Alice worlds all the time from H: which is a network drive while Alice is installed on the C: drive. Just use the File menu in Alice to load a world and point to the correct .a2w file on the correct drive. The problem is probably something other than this.

Default Students' world do not load - 12-17-2007, 10:39 AM

I have multiple students with the same issue as ChopSticks. They have been able to open the .a2w files in the past, have made changes, saved them, and then they are unable to open them. Any ideas?

Yeah I've got an idea, just dump this Alice stuff. I mean if it won't even load, then what good a use is it? Many have had this problem and never find a solution!
I say, "LEAVE THIS BUG INFESTED PROGRAM ALONE!"

Here's a few ideas that don't involve complaining like a 3 year old who can type:
My world didn't load once when I added a 3D text object to it and then set the extrusion to 0 and the text to nothing (or null). i was able to solve this in one way by unzipping the .a2w file with 7-zip (haven't tried it with microsoft unzip but it might work) and saving the contents to a folder. Then, I just clicked on the folder and looked at the files it gave me (all objects and methods were represented) and deleted the text object. Then I just re-zipped the folder and ran it on Alice, worked fine.

Try to see if you can pinpoint the problem to one object or method and try that. Otherwise, I'd check the setting and properties etc. on your computer, because there's no reason your computer should be able to unzip files without a problem one day and then suddenly lose that ability the next. Something may have changed, such as a security setting.

Hope this helps (by the way, very nice first-person scroller program, keep up the good work)
