Its like me taking the Harry Potter Series and just changing its name to Henry Adams or something, and saying it is my book.
That would be true if Alice's code wasn't open source, but it is, so you're allowed to make alterations to it that you see fit, but you can't call it Alice. This way, the alterations made by the programmer are his and his alone, they cannot be claimed by the Alice Team, nor can they be blamed on the Alice Team if they are faulty. Because of this, Morpheo89 and his (or her) team is allowed to do whatever they like to the code of Alice, as long as they don't call it Alice, use any of the Alice trademarks or logos (which is why I initially said that they can't use the images if it's a derivation of Alice), or otherwise affiliate themselves with Alice or the Alice Team without express permission from the Alice Team.

That's copyright law for you. These days, you can get sued for anything, so it's best to completely cover yourself legally.

So they are allowed to just take this code, call it something else, and then sell it as their own because its open source? The whole program?

I'm not saying that they are going to sell the program itself, just the 40 page booklet thing, but they would be allowed to sell the program?

Morpheo69 - I spoke with Gabe last week about your request. He should be in contact shortly.

If they change it, call it a totally different name, and find a market for it, then yes. It's the same for other open source programs, like Linux. If they can make something from the program or alter the program (to the point that there are significant differences between the original and the modified version) then they have rights to sell it.

I will admit, though, that I'm not entirely sure to what extent you have to change the program to be able to call it your own, nor do I know if there is a special case for translations, as they are essentially the same program, but in a different language. That's why the Alice Team needs to be asked when doing projects like this.

You may wish to READ others responses before replying to some of the questions in this forum.

Gabe is working on the problem.

He did read the other responses, he was just answering my question as to how much change was required to make the program different enough to call their own, and that they would have to ask the Alice team for permission. He knew that you had already sent a letter to Gabe, it was a different question though.

Why? Do you speak Spanish better than you speak English? Its basically going to be the same program except all in Spanish, no changes made.

And that's what I call a burn.

By the way, you messed up your html tags trying to quote me. No worries, I'll fix it for you.
