incrementing speed -

Hi I'm new to this program and done C++ before, with incrementing speed/per sec you would usually use speed = speed + .5 or so so this would add .5 each sec as it moves. How would I undergo this in Alice. I'm a tad confused, any help would be appreciated thanks.
