Can't see object axes on Mac

I have Macbook (OSX 10.4), and I also can't see the RGB axes. No bounding boxes either. I tried changing all the parameters, including the seldom used variety.

Also when I set the opacity to anything <= 50% the entire object becomes invisible. Any value >50% is completely opaque.

Any ideas why, how to fix?

The lack of visable axis on a mac was apparently a bug in Alice 2.0. It was supposed to be fixed in 2.2 Beta - but since I don't have a mac, I can't verify that. On a PC, 2.2 Beta is quite buggy - and opacity doesn't work.
