how do you make subparts in skechup

in skechup when you convert an object from skechup to alice it always says such and such ungroped. So how do i make it have subparts?

gloo only connects objects together when they are separate models, so he would have to break the model apart, then go that route which takes much longer then just using blender or 3ds max
