Red face Worms Game - Need Help! - 04-22-2008, 06:12 PM

This is what I have so far... I am able to press 'W' and open the weapons menu, select a weapon (well so far only bazooka) , and fire it while putting it away afterwards (Then re-selecting it)

Now for problems...

1. I need Dave (Skater Guy) to stop moving once I press the fire button
(so the missile doesn't follow the screen)

2. I need the missile to fire ONLY when the bazooka is taken out (I can still fire when the bazooka is put away)

Soon to come...

Shotgun - easy but might need assistance

Grenade - REALLY hard (involves bouncing & parabolic paths)

Cluster bomb - PROFESSIONAL ONLY I need to do the same as the grenade, but have bomblets spread out.

Scenery and opponents - Moderate, need an object to explode before impact.

While a true parabolic trajectory would be ideal for the grenade, it is fairly intensive from a computational requirements viewpoint and may be an overkill (pun definitely intended). Take a look at http://www.dickbaldwin.com/alice/Ali...ectory_program and http://www.dickbaldwin.com/alice/Ali...ectory_program to see if you might not be just as happy with an approximation to a parabolic trajectory that is easy to implement and non-intensive from a computational requirements viewpoint.

Also, if you do decide to use a true parabolic path, take a look at http://www.alice.org/community/showthread.php?t=1344, which even includes bouncing.

I wish you success, but I am against death and violence - even if it is depicted in games. (Worms are humans too, you know.)

Somewhere, though I forget exactly where, I believe the Alice Team specifically mentioned that they omitted weapons objects from Alice.

There might have been a reason why they did this? And possibly there might be a reason why we should not be supporting "war games" in this forum?

I dunno. Ask the Alice Team.

Good luck though.

I believe you should read this...

1. NO PEOPLE OR WORMS WERE HARMED DURING THE MAKING OF THIS GAME, BUT ANY WAY, PLAYER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!!!

2. I'm using 'Targets' Not Living Objects

3. Don't blame me... blame society (or more likely
the person who invented guns)

PS War is bad but best put it in non-real video games so teens don't complain.

I think I'll try to make a Paintball Worms!!!

If so then i'll think about a SimCity Game (But sounds complex due to zoning civic buildings ect)

Not sure what the revolver is supposed to be then. But if anyone does run across the real thing - treat it as a real, and loaded, weapon!

Randy Pausch has an interesting comment on 18-year old males, gun violence, and pornography in one of his videos. I believe, but am not certain, that it is in his Final Lecture. See the following URL:
