Is this a year-long course? A semester course?

What topics have you covered? Have you used anything other than Alice?

I let the students have some fun. I set the requirements for the program, and then have them design a game. It has to be interactive, have a scoreboard, have student created world and class level methods and functions, include parameters and variables....and a list of other requirements. I also require a textual storyboard, notes in the program (they need to learn good habits now), and a write up on what they did, why, how, what worked, what didn't, and how much each team member contributed to the project. They really seem to enjoy it. AND they teach themselves things not in the book. It is amazing how creative they can get when they are building a game.
