"distance to" fuctions

I'm working on a map system that uses little dots moving from a central point in relation to how far every object in the worl is in from and to the right of the camera. I was having some trouble with the coordinates and so I made is say what distance a bunny was in front of the camera (When it was 14 or so meters away) It told me that it was 0.0 feet in front. I also found that the to the left function wasn't working. I need this for my game and there seems to be no way around it. I must know exactly how much in front and to the left it is...
