Connecting to a Database

We are looking at using Alice as a very low level introductory class in programming. Just the very basics with a touch of "what you can do if you learn". A part of that course will be networking and database. I would like to use Alice, but can't seem to find any documentation on doing things like connecting to a database or accessing a network.

Ideas anyone??
