That's strange. I've always been able to build things with JD-GUI. I also have JD-Eclipse but I havn't gotten it to work yet
As far as decompiling I usually just decompile everything, copy and paste it in Eclipse, modify the source, and run the program in Eclipse. Have you tried doing this with your Java editor?

Java is huge and uses an older version of java, and hence is incompatible with the decompiling methods of JD-GUI. It's too bad, but it's the way it is and meh...

I started a github for the project. feature requests and bugs in alice can be posted there and perhaps Arty and I will get to them. Bugs might be a bit harder than features, because the alice code is a bit disorganized.
