Hmmm, well you should check to see how large the .wav file is. For example I am using a song that is one minute eighteen seconds and is 1.5 MB's(does not play) while the .wav file is 13.2 MB's(plays but does not save such as in you case) . What I then think you can do is lower the quality of the song, maybe by re-recording it, but I don't know.

.WAV is a lossless compression format, while .mp3 uses lossy compression, which means WAVs tend to get larger since they don't throw away data. What I mean is that it's not that WAVs are uncompressed, they just do very little of it. Both of them are also very old formats. Nowadays people use AAC lossy compression instead of .mp3 and MPEG-4 ALS (HD-AAC) lossless compression instead of .WAV.
What are the settings you chose to format it in? A sampling rate of 48000 Hertz with a bitrate of 320 Kbps CBR/ABR? WAVs should not get that large unless you chose monstrous settings. You've got to leave encoding sounds to people who are good at it :|
The reason .WAVs work so much better in Alice than .mp3s has nothing to due with the files themselves. Alice just has a crappy .mp3 importer. There are many MP3 encoders out there, and Alice probably only supports one in particular. If I look into the source code a bit, I'll probably be able to figure out which. I'm betting on LAME MP3 Encoder. In fact, file size has little to do with inability to save—One of my Alice Templates are 30MB just for the sky and the ground.
<-- Past encoding experience.
Edit: There's no finding out by looking at the source. I would have to check the .DLLs but that's not going to happen. I'll just brute force it.

If 320 bitrate is high then how does 1411 kpbs sound, hehehe.

Edit: Yes, Alice supports the LAME mp3 encoder I just converted the sound file back to an mp3 and it worked. For those using Audacity to convert sound files you need to download the .dll file. Thanks Mr.Kidnapper!

Well, using both Xilisoft HD Converter as well as Sony Vegas Pro 10, I devised the general scheme of WAV Format.
WAV:
Maximum Sampling Rate: 96 KHz, or 96000 Hz
Maximum Bit-Type: 24-Bit (Lacks 32-bit IEEE Support)
Maximum Number of Channels: 2 (Stereo)
Encoder: PCM

Edit: Infinite file size.
Proof: I converted the 62 minute long 5 Centimeters Per Second movie into a .wav and saved it. Combined with the HD Skydome and the ground, it is... Unknown MB using default Alice A2W zip compression. The .WAV file itself is 97MB. Unfortunately it took over an hour for the sound file alone to save before Alice crashed due to a rendering error. I would have estimated the A2W file to be ~100MB. I would also have noted that outside of Alice, the packaging time would have taken less than 5 minutes.

ok i figured out the mp3 errors with alice and it's just like Mr Kidnapper said.
Alice supports the LAME mp3 player.
Give me your mp3 files and I will convert them for you.
