fade a sunnysky to invisible?

How do I fade a sunnysky to invisible in front of a sunset so that it appears that the sky is changing? I've tried this with, say, a box and did note the Mac vs. Windows bug where it only shows 100% opacity or 0% opacity regardless of what you set it to. So I moved over to Windows. I got the box to fade out, but not the sunnysky. What's different about the sunnysky object from the box that it will not obey the opacity setting? Thanks in advance!
