Alice Won't Start, Please Help.
When I run Alice 2.0 or Storytelling Alice, it doesn't load. The splash screen is on for a couple of seconds and then it disappears. I tried the file "IfAliceFailsTryThis" and it generated three hs_err_pid something files. Here's what they say:

I had the same problem too:(. just download the 2.2 version.
|
Starting up..
Yeah, I have 2.2, is there any better way of starting Alice 2.2 up than going and clicking on "IfAliceFailsTryThis"? Also, try re-downloading it.
|
Try re-downloading the program again. It might have been a download issue or an extraction issue. If you get the error again, post it here and one of the members or I will look at it.

Storytelling Alice is unsupported... Check Looking Glass
From the Alice Team... Storytelling Alice was created as part of a PhD dissertation research project... When the research was completed, work and support for Storytelling ceased... It still runs well on many machines, but it is not all that surprising as technology advances it will run on fewer machines... Sometimes updating video drivers helps (and this is true for any system having difficulty running one of the versions of Alice.)
The team responsible for Storytelling is now at Washington University in St Louis, and they are working on a new project called Looking Glass which you may want to check out. http://lookingglass.wustl.edu/ Cheers! |
Not often that we get an admin posting on the forums.
"Looking Glass" actually looks quite interesting. It is evidently based off of Alice/Storytelling Alice, but it looks more like Alice 3 (just judging from the videos of the worlds). I'm downloading now to check it out. |
