Can you track motion and how far something moves in alice?

I've been trying to make a sim like game but can't crack the motion code. This one will help me finish it.

The easiest way I can think of is to use a dummy object. Drop it at the object's point of view and when you want to know how far you are get the distance from the object to the dummy. To reset move the dummy back to the objects Point of view.
