Didnt this one end?
Didnt this one end?
This has been over since my birthday (February 26), but I have not finished judging the entries because I am currently making a program for a different competition. This competition is not an Alice Forums competition. I anticipate that I can finish judging the entries by the end of April. |
ok
|
ok
I probably should add that to my signature so people will know the approximate date that I will release the winner's name. |
Hmm...are you going to still post your thoughts, suggestions, comments on each of our submissions? You said something about doing this earlier I think.

I will be, but not yet. |
Winner Announcement Changes
Unfortunately, the projected winner announcement date (4/30/11) will need to be pushed ahead a little bit. I will push it ahead to 5/31/11, although I anticipate that winners will be announced earlier.
"Okay, but why are you pushing the date ahead?" In addition to my educational obligations, I must set aside time to work on the AODb Community Forums, which are currently still a little bit glitchy in some areas, and I must also create a new beta for my clock. Unfortunately, I have had to move viewing the submissions to the bottom of my priority list. I will be sure to give updates such as this one whenever possible. I am sorry if this has been an inconvinence to anyone, but the fact remains that I am very busy right now (which, by the way, happens to be the reason that in the past few days, I have not been very active on the Alice Community Forums). |
I declare myself to be the winner.

Winners Of Contest Selected!
The winners of the best animation contest have been selected! I will announce the winners later on when I have time, but I only had time for a quick post, and figured I would let you know that I selected the winners. Every program was great, and selecting a winner was hard! More on the winners later...
|
We already have a winner.
No you don't. |
I believe that my 22 minute animation of Chewbacca shooting nazis from the back of a giant squirrel won this contest already. If you don't remember it, a screenshot is enclosed.

The Winners Of The Unofficial Alice Contest Hosted By David B Are...!

I would like to finally announce the winners of my contest! The winners weren't quite selected like I had originally planned for them to be. Originally, I was going to post a spreadsheet with comments on each animation, but all of the animations worked perfectly, and I liked all of them, so I decided that I shouldn't make a spreadsheet that has comments that all say, "Great Job!"
The winners of the Alice Community Forums Unofficial Alice Contest are ... Arty-FishL's Mouse Maze Mania Game and Reuben2011's Epic Ninja animation! Now ... for those of you who have played other games, and are wondering why I chose these two, allow me to explain why. When judging the submissions, I didn't look at the code. I looked at ease of understanding and how glitchy the program was. Arty-FishL's submission was selected because the program uses, as far as I could tell, very simple coding, but the concepts used in the coding are very rare. Reuben2011's Epic Ninja animation was selected as the video winner because the scenary was one of the nicest that I saw. |
Yay!!! :D

Since you seem to know what it is, what is Game Maker? |
A little late, but...yay! I really wanted to go for the cinematic and dramatic effect when it came to that animation.

Well, you succeeded. |

It is a decently powerful game engine that is mostly for 2D games. You can do wolfenstine style games and cool 3D games, but not that good Graphics. I have made a few games on there like a 2D platformer. Once, you got the system and you know the basics, you can make a game. It is recommended for starters of games, besides Alice, it is a good start. |

They also have powerful "scripting" techniques for Game Maker in their programming language they call gml or game maker language. Using the simple drag and drop interface with a combination of custom scripts can make intuitive games in an efficient amount of time. I used to do a few things in game maker. =P |

Sounds pretty cool. I've looked at the layout, and it appears very childish, but sounds pretty cool. |
