Over 300 objects, all sorted and with icons for your gallery [ V2 - 21 AUG 2011 ]

I've been kind of inactive for a little while, but I am back and on
1234 POSTS!!!
So to celebrate this inconspicuously fabulous event I have very much improved my object pack - old thread here.

I have taken over 300 (!) objects from the community and sorted them into 9 categories in a community folder, then took a suitable screenshot of every single object and added an icon into it for a preview (like how you can preview objects in the object gallery when you go to add one in Alice).

This pack has all the objects from the old pack in it plus many more, but they are rearranged so please delete the old folder if you have it and replace it with the new one.

To add all these objects to your gallery so its easy to get them into your worlds just download it via this link then locate your gallery folder ( wherever you installed Alice\Alice 2.2\Required\gallery) and unzip this into it. Then it should be there.

If you don't know where that folder is then I have made a little world that will run a python script and print out the location of the folder. Get it from here.

or alternatively click here if you do not wish to support me by using an adf.ly link.

or if you wanted to find where Alice is than right click the desktop icon, click properites, 'Open Containing File or Folder', and there you have it, the Alice folder with Alice.exe in it!

Also, don't you just hate mediafire. The way it has so much advertisements and when you thought it couldn't get any worse it pops up an entire new window full of advertisements? That's why I close the mediafire tab before the download even finishes.

Oh, I hadn't noticed the adverts, I have Firefox with Adblock Plus, Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon, Ghostery, WOT, Webutation and SkipScreen (plus many other irrelevant to the subject extensions), so I get no adverts and immediate download.
So, did you download it or not?

Nighthawk0973 08-21-2011 02:27 PM

can't navigate to the gallery folder... wow. It'd be understandable if you've never used a computer before but Alice is about programming, if you can't find a folder then I don't think programming is for you. :)

Oh yeah, nice object pack. I like how the weapons are categorized, ElectricKirby will like the walking Kirby, (I'm assuming, I don't know if he actually likes kirby lol) and jedi will like the master cheif. I also notice you changed the texture on debussybunnies Assualt Rifle because it had his name plastered on it :D (nice strategy btw) The other assualt rifle is cool even it it's texture already has a number on it. You should add in the Elite, Grunt, needler, and pelican debus made though, he gave them to jedi in this thread and there are no names on it :D

http://www.alice.org/community/showthread.php?t=5047

you'll have to go through a few pages to get all of them but they are really high quality and great for any Halo fan. It's 3 pages down so regulalry you would only find it by searching, or looking back through all those objects...

arty-fishL 08-22-2011 12:05 PM

Come on, I expected a bigger response than this -
do you know how long it takes to:

- Collect over 300 objects
- Load and position every object nicely
- Take a screenshot of each of the objects
- Redo every screenshot that doesn't look right
- Resize and refine every screenshot
- Open every model in 7zip
~ match the correct images to the correct models
~ Individually rename each image
~ Insert each image into each model file
- Sort every model into relevant categories
- Refine the categories
- Load every model and check it is the correct model and that it is sorted, named and has a relevant image correctly
- Zip up all the models
- Upload them, have it fail and then do it again

Jabadahut50 08-22-2011 03:40 PM

I apriciate it!

Dude i love this it has a massive selection of high quality models. IT ROCKS!

x2495iiii 08-22-2011 04:28 PM

How'd I miss this?

I know exactly how hard it is. ! got bored after doing exactly three objects. how you did one hundred times that many is beyond me. That was an excellent bit of work on your part and you should be congratulated for it.

So congratulations, arty, for making the Alice community a better place every day.

Create

Is there anyway to create my own object? like say I wanted an alien ship, could I create that or does there have to be a file that I have to go to in order to get it?

dakota95 08-27-2011 01:44 PM

Zip

How do I zip the files? When I download them into the directory you said, it popped up as a picture of alice and when I clicked to open it, it said that I was trying to run alice in a zipped file. What does that mean??
Is there anyway to create my own object? like say I wanted an alien ship, could I create that or does there have to be a file that I have to go to in order to get it?
There's plenty of tutorials in the share objects section of the forums.

Arty,

This is simply astonishing!! Thank you for contributing this to the community.

TauTrumpsPi 08-31-2011 03:25 PM

Sorry, I've been away for awhile.

Arty, this is great! Thank you, I'll be using this as much as I used the last one, which was quite a lot.

arty-fishL 08-31-2011 05:47 PM

Thankyou all. I aim to help. :)

I have a few objects in my Community Objects folder in addition to this collection; perhaps I'll release it someday...

New laptop has no extra models. This fix.

Thanks, Mr. FishL!

Bah. No need grammar. Me mod. Hit nazis with hammer.

Aha ha. But seriously, grammar is important and don't do drugs and stay in school and stuff. Don't be the typical teenybopper kids! Use your lol's sparingly!

DensetsuNoKaboom 10-15-2011 06:57 AM

Strange...

There's a RobloxianModel.a2c in the Characters folder, but it doesn't show up in Alice when I look in the folder.
Strange...

Oh hey it's my former teacher. Now there's a compliment, arty. Good stuff.

How goes the Java games for Android project?
Oh hey it's my former teacher. Now there's a compliment, arty. Good stuff.

How goes the Java games for Android project?
Then that is a true compliment.

I'm still learning. I have been quite busy, but this week I have more free time so hopefully I can get some more done on it.

How's yours coming along?

x2495iiii 10-18-2011 11:02 AM

Nicely but slowly. I've expanded the gameplay slightly and am working on sound and music. I have 4 or 5 songs I can definitely use, one I might be able to use, and several other I'd have to pay a relatively small license fee for. The sounds are easier, as I can record and edit them myself in audacity.

I'm also working on a second project now. It's not nearly as fun to work on as Gatling Good, but it is interesting and could be successful is developed properly, so I'm trying to make sure it is.

Help

First, thanks for all these amazing objects and stuff, you really did put alot of energy in this. :)

Second, could you please explain slowly how to use those tools, because I don't get it.:(

I asked a similar question earlier this week. Here's the thread with Arty's response that has links to explain the details behind each of those tools

http://alice.org/community/showthread.php?t=7512

And this is copy-pasted from that same thread

Arty_fishL_Scripter - that allows you to code Jython in your worlds easily, if you dont know Jython (or Python) then your best not using this.

IAloader - I don't remember exactly what this does, but its some sort of tech example to show how external images and audio can be loaded at runtime, you probably won't need this.

IOTool - this allows you to perform basic file in/out operations for game saving etc, its quite useful.

MusicBoxV1 - this was a useful tool to make using audio in Alice easier, the person who made this is no longer active, but its fairly easy to get your head around anyway.

Restart_button - that's basically what it is, put it in your world and when you click it it restarts the world, just like the other restart button in the bar at the top.

WorldLoaderTool - with this you can link worlds together. If the user has the worlds that are linked all in the same folder then this tool can be used to link them all together for infinite possibilities.

Arty, do you think you could make an object that would do what I described in the suggestion box?

arty-fishL 12-18-2011 06:10 PM
Arty, do you think you could make an object that would do what I described in the suggestion box?
I probably could, I have all the code already, it would just be a matter of putting it together. I tend to only make tools though that do things most people cant do, like scripting things. I think its better people learn to do it themselves. I could therefore make a tool for getting the screen size and auto-calibrating etc, but maybe not for actually turning the camera depending on where the mouse is.

dakota95 12-18-2011 06:14 PM

I mean something like what Mr. Kidnapper is talking about in his fps, cause I have tried to make it for hours and get stumped every time.

What's the best method for calibrating mouse control for a flight sim right now? I feel like mine is confusing and slow.
