Lost Dummy Objects

I need some major help
i had created about 4 dummy objects so as that i could move different 'sets'
and was using these to get around in the ADD OBJECTS screen. i closed the program and saved it and then re opened it
now NONE of the are in the drop down box (but are in the list of objects)
if i tell the camera to 'get a good look at' then it gives me some weird angle that is not facing the way i set up the dummy object/camera
