**Has Anybody Successfully Installed Alice on Debian? -** 07-26-2008, 03:13 PM

Tried installing the general linux tarball in Debian Etch 4.0. Lot's of java error messages show when doing 'alice-run'. Is there a list of back-end requirements for running this on a linux platform? For example, what are the java requirements, gtk requirements etc.

Hi There,
I've just tried to run Alice on my laptop running Debian Lenny. To get Alice fully (probably - just checked examples and drag&drop in new world) working I had to install sun-java6-jdk and run update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sdk.

I am running Alice on two different version of Kubuntu without any problem, and without java3d I think.

I've done it on Ubuntu. Only works with 32-bit versions, and I had the same install experience as iwi.

I've tried in Debian 32 bit and 64 bit. I've tried with Java 6 and Java 5. I've even tried as root. They all stopped at this line:
