Which file do you think I should use in Biturn to convert into ase? I understand the other steps, but Biturn doesn't support dae files.

You're supposed to use Blender to convert it from .dae to .obj, then Biturn to convert it from .obj to .ase.

I have no idea how to convert to .obj. I can import .dae with script, though.

After importing the .dae model, click Select, then hit Select All, then Click File>Export>Wavefront(obj)

Um, I have no idea where the wavefront(obj) button is. It's not in the export part of the program...

It's not in your Blender files? Maybe it's a script that was added to my copy. Try searching for python scripts and plugins that allow Blender to export .obj files.

Thumbs up Just discovered Google SketchUp; Comparison w/Alice - 05-21-2010, 08:53 AM

Hello-

I have been recently browsing the Net to find alternatives to Alice, and just stumbled across Google SketchUp and think this program is really cool!
Once I get more CDRoms I will download the freebie program and begin playing & working with it- I can't wait to begin to see the similarities and differences!

On a second note:
I am desiring to teach Alice to residents of my new home, since I recently moved in the last few weeks. Unsure if it will upload into new computer, as there may not be sufficient room to install Alice. But some of the residents are unemployed and need job skills and could benefit from learning about Alice, if they wish to do so!

Google SketchUp is a cool program and used widely, but it is for making 3D objects, and not environments like in Alice, so I don't think you can really compare it with Alice.

If you like 3D modelling (using sketchup, but also other programs) you can join my social group about it. It's currently frozen, but I'll get on that as soon as I can find the time to do it properly.

If you want to look into a program that creates a virtual environment like Alice, you might want to try out Unity3D, which also has a free version. However, it does not teach you any real programming like Alice and to use it properly (moving or any other action or change over time) you should be very good with javascript and I'd recommend it only to those looking to go professional with this stuff.
