Default World of the Week - haunted bedroom - 03-01-2007, 07:21 PM

I've decided to post one Alice world on this forum each week. Please feel free to use or modify the worlds as you see fit.

The first world is called "haunted bedroom". Try it, you'll like it. It is a simple interactive world that demonstrates the use of events. You should move around in the haunted bedroom using the arrow keys and click on different objects to see how they react.

Actually, this is a sample solution for Cases and Places exercise 4-2 in the Shelly Cashman Herbert book on Alice. I chose this world because it responds to a question asked by amoreno in the Teaching with Alice forum.

Many amusement parks have a shooting gallery in which players shoot at different objects and they respond when hit, such as a clock that spins or a player piano that plays when you hit a target on the piano. The exercise in the book asks you to create a similar world of your own. I created this as a sample to show people what I had in mind.

I think there are eight items that you can click on, including the tombstone. i removed the sound to make the file shorter. feel free to add sound effects f your own.

Very creative, but one tip. Start the camera down a little more. (makes you feel like you are that person) Good job though!

P.S I'd give you a cookie if I had one

Thanks. Moving the camera down does make it look better.

I Lost The Bedroom And Had to Use The "Move To" Method To Get Back.
So Please Moke Another Side To It. :/ Trust Me It's MUCH Easier That Way

Chuck,

Thanks for the world. This is an excellent example of events. I look forward to your future weekly worlds!

Default Thanks - 03-15-2007, 04:20 AM

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for posting this world. It's been pretty useful. However, I am currently struggling with having a camera behind a character all the time, i.e., the camera follows the character as the user moves the character around. The kids and I have played with different camera movements combinations, and haven't found yet a right combination.

Do you have any idea how could it be made?

Cheers,

Just set the camera's vehicle to the character.

seeing as how this was created in 2007 and it is now 2008, I'm assuming that there are going to be no more worlds
