Question What is the "dominant" language for coding games? - 11-02-2010, 11:57 PM

OK, I have learned a bit about Alice and am ready to move on.

What i need answered is:
-What is the software/computer language that professionals use to make video games such as CoD and Halo?

-Do you recommend a book/DVD/other to learn the software/code?

\\Thanks Guys

I'm pretty sure they use either their own, in the case of Halo, or a special on that costs $1000, like Half-life's physics engine.

People go to university and study for years before they are able to code big games and it usually takes crews of over 100 employees to put those games together. The programming language they usually use is C++ or C.

I'm a web developer/ designer now.

The absoulute best mod every made (Garrysmod) running on the half life 2 source engine and was programmed with C++. They've sold over a million copies, maybe even about 2 million just recently since it was on sale. And since they are in partnership with valve to allow them to sell it for $10 each.

You can never have fully learned Alice.
Anyway, why dont you half migrate to python in Alice. Once you know enough about python, which is a much more complex thing, but simple once you know it, then you can integrate more of the jython aspects into it.
The jython brings in java, which is a well used program in software and gaming. You can explore the Alice jar in netbeans. On from this you can learn java much more in Unity 3D. Maybe go even further and be a mega coder.
