Collision Help!

I can not figure out why my collision test is not working. i have to create a world with a maze using fences or whatever and when my person object touches any other object you it will cause you to start over until you get to the end without touching anything. this is what i have so far. please help thanks.

first- place a dummy object at the start of the maze.
then say 'if guy is within '1 meter' of fence' move to dummy object.
