Default How far has jython gone? - 01-21-2011, 10:47 AM

Hey,
I've been gone for a while, and I was wondering where the jython coding has taken us. I mean has it been used in any real games yet. I mean to be 100% honest Jython could be used to create a multiplayer game in Alice over a Local Area Network. I also think that we could use it greatley when building savegames.

Gamesaves, networked, variable modifying, key press detecting, mouse position, pixel colour, robot, mouse press, element editing, texture and sound loading, IDE window customisation, play window customisation, fullscreen ...............

Yeah, you missed a lot. Me and Zone keep pushing its limits.
Welcome Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arrow Stuff you might have missed that I found right now. - 01-21-2011, 11:58 AM

Stuff you might have missed that I found right now. Its not everything, and its more tech demos than full games. Im not sure what games have jython in them. Zones done a lot of stuff he's not released, so ask him if you want to find out. Here's what I got in my quick look:

Mouse detecting and control.
Basic networking.
IDE manipulation, script editing, frames, key detection and maybe more.
Play window size + mouse detection, game saving.
Texture and audio loading.
New Alice features.

Zone is currently exploring the depths of the IDE and other stuff like that, as am I, but in other ways.

Wow, I am definetly glad to be back. I had a long break but this is always a nice community. I have to be honest though I am kinda said ti be back as I have no idea in to coding with jython. I'm learning C# right now. However, I've heard all of the C languages are hard to learn and it is as easy as picking up on all the difrent operatoers to learn another language. I have to ask though, hows has it never gotten to the point that someone decides to make a script so that each lvl is it's own alice world to save space and have it work well.

So, I need to go and read those threads now.
Bye for now,
King Gamer

Some real progress has been made on the alice api since you left. I made a program that edited alice files. Arty made a scripter. We both found amazing ways to communicate with alice. Now, I'm working on an abstraction layer to make coding with jython easier. The start of it comes with my nicelist class. This class takes a silly alice list and turns it into a fully python-compliant list.

Check it out!

About that alice file editor, currently all it does it perform some optimizations on alice code, but it could be transformed into an IDE at some point.

Default Hi - 01-22-2011, 03:26 PM

Nice to see Alice really starting to get some bigger potential. Probably never as a true full-scale engine but definitely a lot more. Will python allow for more scripts in game so it doesn't lag as much? hated that problem. Now I'm working with a game engine on my game. best part is alice was good for learning how to make scripts, worst is i forgot how . Ive been taking time off landscaping on my game and working on my GUI make it look nice.

One thing be nice in alice is trails *say a dirt, brick road* and non flat landscapes + ability to have easy collision for simple games.

I have to be honest, Alice could never be a full scale engine. I mean it is on dx 7. I really wish someone on here could update that to like 10 because then we would have many optimizations but whatever.
