Having Trouble opening Alice files

Hello all,
I am currently taking a computer programming class that is using Alice. I have a disk and I have the program on my computer. I'm able to open Alice and create files, but when I try to re-open them, and to open the Alice examples on the disc that came with the book, I get an error message. Anybody have any idea what the problem might be. I have a Dell XPS with VISTA. Thanks.

P.S. I posted this same exact thread on the Teaching With Alice section. But I didn't get any response. Please help!

One possible problem might be that you are trying to open the file without first starting Alice. You can only open Alice worlds from within Alice.

If you can't do it there, I have no idea - sorry.
